We see Modern Contemporary art being rediscovered in the the future just as classical antiquity was discovered and portrayed in Neoclassical art. The act of depicting art from a previous era is full of longing for a better world, a faded beauty that marks romanticism. Vadim Vosters wants to place these issues in contemporary art. As we rediscover  paintings of our ancestors in the caves of Altamira, perhaps we can rediscover the works of Koons or Catalan. This means that the context of the work is always in change. Images that are getting rediscovered, get a new life because their connotation is completely gone.

Schoonheid in kunst is niét langer volmaakt.

WORLD PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD               plan

Dear readers,

As many of you are already well aware, the making of a new work of mine was at the centre of the WORLD PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD discussion . Giovanni Troilo photographed me at work in my studio in MOLENBEEK, Brussels.

I would like to rectify some of the mistakes about this photo which continue to surface in the press. First of all I did not stage this photo for Giovanni nor as a parody of Rembrandt's Anatomy Lesson. It was inspired by an older painting and photo I had made in 2003. Secondly, I am not the man on the table as New York Times reported. This is a dancer who lives in Brussels. Only one of the people around the table was a professional actress but there was also a teacher, a writer, a journalist, a producer and film directors. I use my friends as models because I want these scenes I create to be close to reality. Normal, everyday people can have moments like the one in this photo so it's really not correct that this photo is about cannibalism. And finally, Bruno Stevens was never the artist behind this photo as Knack so absurdly reported.

I am sorry that Giovanni lost his prize. Unfortunately he made an error with the captions and said the photo was taken in Charleroi. I think it is clear that even the journalists who demand and defend the integrity of press information can make mistakes.
